Local Musicians to play 2018 Duffing for Dollars Charity Golf Event

Orange County musicians Mel Schantz (Unit F), Dan Ballesteri (Hate Club) and Denny McGahey (Shattered Faith, El Centro, MIA) have joined to play in the 2018 Duffing for Dollars Charity Golf Tournament, an entertainment industry sponsored event hosted by Unite the United Foundation. They will be joined by Newport Beach dentist “Buzz” McHarris, who is also a long time punk rock dj (KXLU, Los Anarchy radio).

Organized by John Reese (SGE), Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour, Its Not Dead Fest) and Steve Van Doren (Vans), this celebrity fundraiser is a day long event to be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Mission Viejo Country Club, to benefit MusiCares and the Unite the United Foundatations. MusiCaresis The Recording Academy’s charity MusiCares. MuisCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares’ services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical, and personal emergencies. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.

“These are the kind of events that represent what the our music scene is really about. And this is the kind of event that puts all of us together in one place, the organizers, the musicians, the promoters, the staffers and the sponsors, so we end up knowing and really seeing what it is all about. It’s how we can make a difference and having fun in the process.“ said Schantz, the lead singer for Orange County based punk rock group Unit F.

Unite The United Foundation is a public 501(c)(3) non-profit, fundraising organization founded by John Reese and Kevin Lyman, that supports numerous grassroots organization which range from environmental to social, and is the official host of the event.

 “When you look at the groups that these guys raise money for, you cannot help but be impressed…they are not just making a difference on the music scene, they are actually giving back and making a difference in society.“ Schantz continued. “Personally, that is exactly what I think Unit F is really about, through our music and through our individual actions. I am honored to be a part of the musical community that cares, and what Kevin and John are doing here is evidence of that.”
